Jeffrey Hughes

Jeffrey Hughes is a Research Fellow at the University of St. Andrews, joining the Centre for Research into Information, Surveillance and Privacy based at The School of Management. His current focus is on big data analytics and the political, legal, economic and social dimensions of the surveillance society.

He holds a PhD in Strategy and Information Systems from Trinity College Dublin. His doctoral research explored the practice of strategic information systems planning by senior managers in a public service healthcare context. He was an Adjunct Assistant Professor at TCD, designing and delivering a wholly new module on Strategy and Information Systems for the MSc in Management programme.

Jeffrey draws upon a wealth of practitioner experience from his time spent in industry, where he was primarily engaged in the technology and consulting realms. He has worked for a range of large multi-nationals inclusive of Diageo, eir, and British Telecom.
