Congratulations to Professor David Lyon, who has been named a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, one of 72 new Fellows and two Specially Elected Fellows. The newly elected Fellows have diverse backgrounds and disciplines but they have been elected to the Academies of RSC by their peers in recognition of outstanding scholarly, scientific and artistic achievement.
Founded in 1882, RSC is Canada’s senior and most prestigious scholarly organization. Election to RSC is the highest honour a scholar can achieve in the Arts, Humanities and Sciences.
"I am delighted to hear the news that four of our faculty members have been recognized by the Royal Society of Canada, a prestigious organization that is a part of the intellectual fabric of this country," says Queen's Vice-Principal (Research) Kerry Rowe. "Drs. Lyon, Herzberg, Smol and Overall are leading scholars in their fields, having made outstanding contributions to a variety of issues in the sciences, social sciences, and humanities that have achieved distinction, both nationally and internationally. They are all highly deserving of this recognition, and I offer them my congratulations."
The medals and awards will be presented at a banquet in Ottawa on November 15, following the induction ceremony of newly elected Fellows.
