The Sociology of Securitization
Thursday, March 20th
Location: Mackintosh-Corry Hall, Room D411
Time: 12:30pm to 1:30pm
Within the contemporary politics of terror, we see "security" continually invoked as a justification for greater state intrusion and control over the everyday. To contrast with the linguistic turn in recent writings from the Copenhagen School, Mark argues that we need to understand the process of securitization -- how an issue comes to be accepted as a security issue -- in sociological terms. Evidence is provided from the creation, review, and audit of the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority.
Everyone welcome!
