The successful applicant will work on two research projects funded by the European Commission under the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7-Sec): The PRISMS project, The PRIvacy and Security MirrorS: “Towards a European framework for integrated decision making”, and The ERC funded DigIDeas project “Social and Ethical Aspects of Digital Identities. Towards an Value Sensitive Identity Management”

The successful candidate will:

  • Engage in empirical research on current developments and trends regarding security and privacy technologies and applications
  • Liaise and cooperate with project partners
  • Participate and contribute to ongoing work on practices of digital identification.
  • Coordinate and contribute to research dissemination, both to academic and professional (ICT) audiences
  • Contribute to development of value sensitive IDM projects with IT staff and external professional partners
  • Assist in organisation of international workshops and project meetings
  • Contribute to integration of research results into educational programmes.

Qualifications:
A completed or nearly completed PhD in a relevant field (e.g. science and technology studies, IT and ethics, constructivist technology assessment, engineering ethics)
Research and publishing experience in all or some the following areas:

  • Privacy (including privacy by design), security studies, surveillance studies, value sensitive design, science and technology studies, information studies, constructivist technology assessment.
  • Knowledge and experience in qualitative empirical social science research methods
  • Fluency in both written and spoken academic English, proficiency in Dutch is not required but preferred
  • Ability to bridge divides between humanities or social science and technical engineering perspectives
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a research team

We offer:

  • Full time, two-year post-doctoral position (6 months trial period).
  • Salary (gross) between min. € 3177,- max. € 4365,- , depending on experience and education, in accordance with CAO-HBO - 11.

The Infonomics and New Media Research Centre is a small interdisciplinary research unit at Zuyd University of Applied Sciences, Maastricht/Heerlen, currently employing 10 people. Its research is focused on social and ethical aspects of digitisation, digital identities, security, and value sensitive design. With our current project portfolio we operate in national, European (FP7), and international networks of knowledge institutions and stakeholder organisations.
