Members of the SSC are deeply saddened to learn of Ian Kerr’s death from cancer on August 26 2019. Ian was a valued colleague, from the University of Ottawa, with whom we collaborated on several major projects. He had a gift for communicating complex ideas in an accessible manner – and a marvelous sense of humour. His insights on the ethics of surveillance are a great legacy but the person himself will be sorely missed by all of us. To honour his memory, the University of Ottawa has established the Ian R. Kerr Memorial Fund, which will continue his remarkable legacy by supporting students, innovative programming, and cutting-edge research. To donate, go here.
