Surveillance of Text

Speech and writing express conscious thought, but they also reveal aspects of mental state, personality, and social self-perception. As humans we are mostly blind to these properties, but they are accessible to software, creating a new surveillance modality. Professor Skillicorn will review the state of the art, and illustrate using the speeches of the candidates for the U.S. presidential election.
