The Surveillance Studies Centre and Solidarity for Palestinian Human Rights (SPHR) Queen's are pleased to present:
The world has seen increasing economic divergence between wealthy and poor nations, and between the wealthy and poor inside nations. The increasing levels of poverty and inequality have coincided with the ongoing migration to cities worldwide. Military planners for powerful nations have characterized the current and foreseen results, such as the micro-wars currently going on in Rios Favelas, as the 'urbanization of insurgency'. Israel, with over 40 years of operations inside Palestinian urban areas, has the most extensive experience in urban counterinsurgency amongst countries in the world. The lecture and discussion will focus on Israel and the Occupation's role in the young and growing market for 'pacification' strategies, equipment and techniques that are already being used in Iraq, Afghanistan, the United States and Canada.
Jimmy Johnson is the found of Neged Neshek (Hebrew for 'Against Arms'), a project that offers analysis, news and data about Israeli military and security exports. He is co-author of a pending book on the Pacification Industry with Jeff Halper.
